Structural Features of Rock Bits

Suitable for high RPM and high WOB (weight on bit) drilling operations. Besides conventional formations, this drill bit series is also designed for drilling in heterogeneous formations with multiple interbedded layers and strong impact vibrations.

1.Adopts a floating bearing structure. The floating components are made of new material featuring high strength, high elasticity, high temperature resistance and high wear resistance, with surface treatment by solid lubricant. This reduces the relative linear velocity of bearing pairs while decreasing friction surface temperature rise, effectively improving bearing life and reliability under high WOB or high RPM drilling conditions.

2.Uses high-precision metal seals. The metal seal consists of a pair of carefully designed and machined metal sealing rings serving as axial dynamic seals for the bearing, with two highly elastic rubber energizer rings located in the seal areas of the shank and cone respectively as static seals. The optimized seal compression ensures the two metal ring sealing surfaces maintain good contact.

3.Employs ball-locked cones to accommodate high RPM rotation.

4.Features an all-rubber lubricant reservoir that can limit pressure differential and prevent drilling fluid from entering the lubrication system, providing excellent lubrication assurance for the bearing system.

5.Utilizes new high-temperature grease resistant to 250°C with anti-wear properties.

6.For insert bits: uses high-strength, high-toughness carbide inserts with optimized number of rows, tooth count, tooth exposure height and insert profile to maximize wear resistance and cutting performance. For steel tooth bits: the tooth surfaces are overlaid with new wear-resistant material to maintain high ROP while extending tooth life.

Characteristics of Hard Formation Drill Bits

To address common failure modes of conventional rock bits in hard formations—such as tooth breakage, tooth wear, cone tip wear, and bit gauge loss—a specialized hard formation drill bit has been developed. This bit features metal face seals and reinforced shank-back structures to meet the demands of hard formation drilling.

Characteristics of Hard Formation Drill Bits

The journal bearing utilizes fully automated surface hardfacing welding technology with wear-resistant alloy, while the cone bore is coated with a 3rd-generation high-performance composite solid lubricant. This enhances bearing load capacity and improves the bearing operating environment through the combined effects of the composite solid lubricant and advanced synthetic grease, enabling the bearing to withstand high WOB (Weight on Bit).

Cone Tip Reinforcement Technology

Numerical Experiments

Advanced computer 3D simulation technology is used to simulate actual drilling conditions, combined with physical experiments to design cutting structures suitable for hard formations.

Based on differences in formation rock drillability, tooth materials and geometries are properly matched to reduce tooth breakage, improve wear resistance, and maintain long-lasting cutting aggressiveness.
